What does it look like to have your own back? What does it look like to believe in your passions and pursue your truth? For the past decade plus that has looked like me being a mental health therapist. It has led to so much fulfillment in being able to come alongside and carry burdens as clients grow stronger working through trauma, depression, anxiety, transitions, etc.
As irony has it, upon graduating from grad school, I was introduced to the field of Nutrigenomics, which is basically your individual gene’s relationship with the nutrition you consume. To say that it was “love at first sight” is an understatement. I have dabbled in this field, focusing solely on healing my own family. However, I have seen firsthand the incredible strength that nutrition has in changing life trajectory. For instance, my son who was extremely delayed (physically, mentally, and emotionally) and qualified for two significant mental disorders, lost both diagnoses and is not only caught up to his age but is an all “A” student and competitive soccer player. This significant change took every bit of my extra effort to learn and facilitate over the past decade. But I am now on the other side, breathing normally and realizing that I MUST offer this to more people.
Three years ago, I became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist with AFPA which is the base level certification for how I want to assist my clients. I am very fortunate to be able to go back to graduate school and pursue a second master’s in the field of Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. My hope is that this eventually leads to a doctorate in the same field. I desire to offer you what I have NOW but recognize the importance of education before dabbling with a person’s health hoping for the best results. My hope is that in a few years, I can have proven results in improving many mental health conditions. I look forward to sharing more about this passion in the coming months. Stay tuned.
